Welcome to 1st Grade!
I am just as excited as you are to start another great year here at School Four. First grade is such an exciting time for all of us. As a teacher, its both challenging and rewarding because of the enormous amount of growth that occurs this year. For your child, its a year of new friends, skills and expectations. This year will become the most important building block for years to come! 
Please don't hesitate to write me a note, call or email me with any questions or concerns throughout the year.

November News

Happy November...the shortest school month of the year! Days spent in school may be less, but this month is jam packed with voting, veterans, togetherness and Thanksgiving! We’re not only learning about academics this month but also about reflection and giving to others. Have you thought about what you’re thankful for yet?!

April News

Hello April and Hello Spring! Spring is in full bloom and so are our first graders. We are busy learning about the seasons and different types of weather. The Spring season can be tricky, so be sure to bring a light sweater for chilly days inside. We received our report cards a few weeks ago, so we know what we are doing well in and what we need to focus more on as the year winds down. Be sure to use our Wonders Online and Envision Math to enhance these skills. 

March News


On Thursday March 2nd we’ll be celebrating Read Across America. Please feel free to bring a book and join along. Everyone’s favorite author “Dr. Seuss will be honored! We’ll be working all week on daily activities, projects, writings and dress up days. Oh, the Thinks you Can Think!

February News

Although February is the shortest month..its also filled with lots love and fun! We will start the month learning about Groundhog’s day. Will we have a longer Winter or a shorter Spring? We'll see what Punxsutawney Phil says!. We'll also learn the history Abraham Lincoln and George Washington and their important roles as Presidents of the United States. Can you believe we’ve been in school for 100 days already?! Wow!! 


January News

Welcome to 2017! We are full steam ahead in 1st grade. We are learning how to read and write independently, complete multistep problems in math, compare habitats and their weather conditions while being responsible citizens!
I look forward to meeting with you at conferences this month to discuss your child's strengths as well as how to encourage them to be successful learners!

December News

This month our class busy working busy little elves! We will be learning about others traditions and holidays within our school community. It is important to learn about where we come from, who we are and what we do with our families...not only during this time of the year but everyday!
We are also eager to get our report cards on December 9th so be sure to check Oncourse to see our grades!

November News

Its November so that means Election time! Who are you voting for in the Presidental race? That question has been quite a topic for our first graders this month. We have discussed both parties and what it means to be President of the United States of America. November is also Thanksgiving. We will be hosting our annual Thanksgiving feast with plenty of turkey, cranberries and pie!

October is one of our favorite months in 1st grade! We’ve learned that the days are becoming cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and what to do in case of a fire. Ask us about our fall writing, short vowels, senses, plant life and spooky stories read aloud in class.
